After the meeting organized by the indigenous people and local communities work groups in August, 2017, in California, Weaving Ties concluded that it was strategic to actively follow the process approach between the global alliance and the Governors for Climate (GCF) work group.
For this reason, and considering that the team was dedicated to the organization of the European Tour of Guardians of the Forests – The Route to Bonn and COP 23, we resolved to support with financial resources to guarantee the participation of one delegate per organization of the Global Alliance members (AMPB, COICA, AMAN, APIB) in the GCF annual meeting.
We followed this activity by distance and through Whatsapp work groups. The content published in the press was amplified in social media.
The WT initiative was quick and well received by the organizations. Previously in California all of them manifested their interest in participating in the meeting and presenting the formal Klamath Letter elaborated during the August meeting.
This declaration resumes the indigenous people and traditional communities proposal for governors to achieve an effective reduction of deforestation and the rights protection of the people of the forests
By supporting the participation of the indigenous people and local communities during the Kalimantan meeting, they were able to set the ideal space and a new opportunity to boost collaboration sinergies, through a direct dialogue between governmental representatives and forests people. Also this event allowed that leaders of these organizations can reunite with donors institutions such as CLUA and NORAD, transmit messages and explore other collaboration posibilites.
In such a way, this action permitted to take another step towards the construction of alliances between governments, indigenous people and forest communities. Also it reinforces the capacities and impact in the joint action of the global alliance in the GCF as a specific scenario. AMAN incorporates actively to this context, which was not represented before this date.
