Participation at AMAN’s Fifth Congress in Indonesia

Weaving Ties led a delegation of 8 people from Latin America (from AMPB, APIB and COICA) to the V AMAN Congress in Medan, North Sumatra.

The first day we attended a workshop on indigenous education, in which members of the delegation took the floor. The second day we divided into two groups, one of which participated in a workshop on youth, and the second to a workshop on the situation of women. On the third day, a number of members of the delegation were present at the plenary session during the presentation of the dedicated Indonesian indigenous peoples financing mechanism provided by the Samdhana Institute.

On the fourth day, the delegation participated in the parade of the delegations of the different indigenous peoples, and we were able to directly feel the frustration of the audience because of the absence of the president, who had promised he would come.

Finally, on the fifth day, we attended the election of the new secretary general, Rukka Sombolinghi, from Sulawesi, with a space where the Latin American delegation could deliver h er a note of congratulations and a proposal for future collaboration signed by the representatives of the 3 organizations present.
