In August a first exploratory visit to Marrakech, in Morocco, led by Michel Laforge, aimed to assess the relevance of having the Association of Mountain People of the World (APMM) as a local partner during the actions of COP22. Indeed, the APMM-Morocco seemed to be well organized, and it represented an interesting local partner. The visit to Marrakech and to Tinghir showed that the APMM-Morocco and the WMPA in general could be good partners, despite certain problems of internal organization, but also that the Amazigh World Council (CMA), present in Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia, and with a strong presence also in France, could be an interesting partner as a representation of an indigenous people. Community forest management experiences were identified in Morocco, which was thought to serve as the basis for an exchange during the COP.
This visit was completed by an exploratory mission in late September by Leticia Doormann, which identified logistics issues (accommodation, transport), support of local staff (related to the CMA) and visit of the possible exchange space in Denmet.
