Warrioresses meeting in Leticia, Colombia

  • Twenty leaders from 12 countries met on April 3 in the Amazonian city of Leticia, Colombia, in the tri-border sector between Colombia, Brazil and Peru, to get to know each other better and exchange experiences.

They came from Central America, as delegates from the AMPB, from non-Amazonian Brazil, as delegates from APIB, at the invitation of the COICA, organization of the Amazon. This last one celebrates in next June its 2nd Congress of the Amazonian Woman and its General Assembly, reason why the encounter served as pre-Congress.

The meeting served above all to weave ties and build trust among leaders of organizations that often leave no room for female leadership in the spaces of power, through playful activities, sports and rapprochement between human beings.

The participants valued the fact that the workshops were held in villages («km 11» and Nazareth), which allowed them to appreciate very closely the reality of their colleagues of the department of Amazonas, in Colombia; what made the choice of these communities special, is that in both, the highest authority of the community (the «kuraca») was a woman.

As a result of this meeting, the following agreements were made:

  • Invitation of a delegation of women from AMPB, AMAN and APIB to the 2nd Congress of Amazonian Women in Macapá, Brazil, in June 2018
  • Preparation of the Agenda of the 2nd Congress of Amazonian Women of COICA in Macapá (review of existing statutes and revision of proposed changes)
  • Organization of an Encounter of Warrioresses in Central America by the AMPB in 2019, where they will be invited leaders of the other organizations already mentioned
  • Keep in touch through the WhatsApp group already created
